The Lovely Lady Liberty
by Craig Rosebraugh, 1992
Oh Lady Liberty
With your stance of symbolic form
Looking up to you and remembering
Five hundred years of genocide
As Hitler was to the Nazis
You are so powerful, so glorious
Only if the world is indeed flat
Then all you stand for is real
How do you do it, Lady Liberty?
How can you continue to lead
A nation of sheep
Directly into the wolf's enchantment of freedom?
The torch is raised and lit
Signifying the exploitation since 1492
The segregation of American natives
As you turn your back in support
Smooth and shapely you are no longer
For a closer look finds you are
Made up of a series of cracks
Soon to crumble far beneath the earth
Lying side by side with Adolf
Becoming a memory of a mistake
Yet there will be growth
From the lesson learned
Freedom for all, Lady Liberty?
Or for just those who believe?
